Butterfly

[D]I've been [Bm]a worm [D]since I wa[Bm]s born
But I[D]'ll[Bm] change before[D] I die [Bm]
[G]Someday[A] soon I'll co[G]me out of th[A]is cocoon
[G]And turn into a[A] but[D]terfly

Grandpa drank mash and talked that trash
Died in a coal mine blast
Daddy smoked crack talked straight smack
Got a cap popped in his ass

Daddy died and momma cried
On the shoulders of other men
I stayed home all alone
Played with my imaginary friends

[G]They're pretty good guys who like to get high
It [D]helped to stop the pain
[G]One quick blast makes your heart beat so fast
You fee[E]l the blood boiling in yo[A]ur veins

My buddy Vernon loved his bourbon
And everything else that burned
My girl Ophelia only drank tequila
Her favorite part was the worm

We were playing by the tractor with an old firecracker
And a can of gasoline
There was one quick blast that burned all the grass
Brightest thing that I had ever seen

I saw my grandpappy flying behind my daddy
They picked me up where I fell down
The field was burning Ophelia and Vernon
Slithered back into the ground

Momma came running I tried to yell something
But my mouth couldn't form the words
She didn't see me up there so high in the air
With all the butterflies and the birds
