Haiku

I[G] have been trying
To wri[Am]te a ha[D]iku for you  [G]
Som[Am]e things I jus[D]t can’t do

M[G]aybe you’re beyond  [Am]
Ancient a[D]sian poetry [G]
O[Am]r maybe i[D]t’s just me

I[G] have been trying
To ge[Am]t this haiku[D] just rig[Em]ht all nigh[A]t
For you[Em]; alrigh[A]t I’m t[D]hrough

M[G]aybe this poem
Was lost[Am] in the sauce[D] we spilled  [G]
Tha[Am]t never go[D]t refilled

I[G]’ve never thought much
Of formu[Am]laic ver[D]se anyway  [G]
An[Am]d rhymes are no[D]t my forte

I[G] have been trying

T[G]here, that’s [N.C.]sufficient
I wrot[Am]e a haiku[D] for you [Em]
Well I tried[A] at least, and that’s no[Em]t so bad
I’m worki[A]ng here; can tha[D]t be said for you
