It was almost Christmas time,
There I stood in another line,
Trying to buy that last Gift or two,
Not really in the Christmas mood.
Standing right in front of me,
a little boy waiting anxiously,
pacing round Like little boys do,
and in his hands he held a pair of shoes.
And his Em clothes were old and D worn,
He was Em dirty from head to D toe
C and when it came his D time to pay,
Am7 I couldn't believe what I D heard him say.
Sir, I want to buy these shoes,
for my momma (/) please,
it's D Christmas eve and these E shoes are just her A size.
Could your hurry E please,
Daddy says theres not much Fm/E time,
you see D shes been sick for E quite awhile
and I D know these shoes will E make her smile
and I D want her to look E beautiful
if momma meets Jesus tonight (-)
A They counted pennies for what A/G seemed like years,
FM the cashier said son theres F#m/E not enough here,
D he searched his pockets E frantically,
D then he turned and E looked at me.
He said, A Momma made Christmas A/G good at our house,
Fm most years she just F#m/E did without,
D tell me Sir what am I E gonna do
some D how I've got to E buy her these Christmas A shoes.
Fm So I laid the money E down,
I just Fm had to help him E out,
and I'll D never forget the E look on his face
when he said D mommas gonna look so great.
(Chorus)
I Bm7 knew I'd caught a glimpse of A heaven's love
as Bm7 thanked me E and ran A out
I knew that G God had sent that D little boy to E remind me,
What Bm7 Christmas is all E7 about.
(Chorus)
