Why

[Dm]Why did it h[C]ave to [Dm]be a friend
Who ch[Gm]ose to bet[C]ray the L[Dm]ord
[Dm]Why did he [C]use a k[Dm]iss to show
That's n[Gm]ot what a k[C]iss is f[Dm]or
O[F]nly a friend can betr[C]ay a friend
A st[Dm]ranger has nothing to ga[A]in
And [Dm]only a f[C]riend comes [Dm]close enough
To [Gm]ever cause [C]so much p[Dm]ain

And [Gm]why did there h[F]ave to [Gm]be thorny
[Cm]Crown pressed up[F]on His h[Gm]ead
It [Gm]should have b[F]een the r[Gm]oyal one
Made of j[Cm]ewels and g[F]old ins[Gm]tead
[F]It had to be a c[C]rown of thorns
Bec[Dm]ause in this life that we l[A]ive
[Dm]All who would s[C]eek to l[Dm]ove
A thorn is a[Gm]ll that this w[C]orld can g[Dm]ive

(use the same chords as in the first verse)
And why did it have to be
A heavy cross He was made to bare
And why did they nail His feet and hands
His love would have held Him there
It was a cross for upon a cross
A thief was supposed to pay
And Jesus had come into the world
To steal every heart away
Yes, Jesus had come into the world
To steal every heart away
