In summer '63 I was staying ali[C]ve
[Em]hanging at the races, hoping to dr[D]ive
When they were done with the weekend and loading the[C] cars
[Em]I couldn't get a pass [G]so I went to the bar [D]

I'm up in the corner nursing a b[C]eer
[Em]who should come laughing and joking in h[D]ere
but Bobby Brown, the winner of the sports car r[C]ace
[Em]with some friends and a girl, m[G]an, she lit up the p[D]lace

[G]Bobby was a wild boy [A]- one s[D]ummer
he [G]knocked down a motel [A]wall with a [D]hammer
He'd [G]do anything - one [A]night for a [D]bet
he [G]raced through the cornf[A]ields in a Co[D]rvet[A]te

I thought it's got to be a thrill to be like [C]that
with the [Em]beautiful girl[G] and be king of the tr[D]ack
But the truth is when all was said and [C]done
it was his [Em]Cobra I wanted [G]- the car was the on[D]e [C]
