        [D]I once knew a man
        [Em]Been everywh[A]ere in the wo[F]rld
Gave me a tiny i[Em]vory ball
        [F#m]Said it would br[B]ing me g[G]ood
        [Cm]Never believed it wo[G]uld un[Bm]til
                      [C] [Bbsus2] [x13311]
        I have been loving you

        Dear old man
        He'd seen most everything
Gave me a piece of good advice
Said it would do me well
        I couldn't really tell until
        I have been loving you

        [Asus2] [x02200]
        Now it seems
        Things are not so strange
        I can see more clearly
        Suddenly I've found my w[G]ay
I know the old man would l[F#m]augh
        He spoke of love's sw[B]eeter d[G]ays [F#]
        [Em]And in his e[A]loquent w[F]ay
[Bbm]I think he was speaking of y[F]ou
        [Am]You are so lovely
        You didn't have to say a th[D]ing

But I remember that old man
Telling me he'd seen the light
Gave me a small brown leather book
        Insisted that he was right
        [Cm]I only heard him sl[G]ightly
        [Bm] 'Til I h[Cm]eard you wh[G]isper
        [C] Took you [Bm]up all [Cm]in my a[G]rms [Bm] [Bbsus2]

        [D]Dear old man [Dsus4] [D] [Dsus4]
        [D]Wise old man [Dsus4] [D] [Dsus4]
        [D]Fine old man,[Dsus4] now [D] [Dsus4]
