Chords in this song
Strum
D-DU-UDU
: 000220 (030220 = )
G: 330023 (x30023 = alternate emphasis)
The Em v. Em7 is a tough one to call. If you listen to the background vocals, they
clearly descend
to note G (the 3 in the Em7 chord above), but I believe Jon is simply playing an Em
and letting
the vocals create the dissonance. You can play it either way if youre singing; play Em7
if youre not.
Unfortunately I dont know most of the lyrics. But the verses play out in the following
way rhythmically:
(following an intro, which is simply an A chord:)
For help, Ill write the chords over one of the lyrics I do know.
This jukebox wont play no Sinatra
It just curses all night long
Theres no easy spoken mantra
Put me back where I belong
Then, the chorus is played like this: (all single strum once first Gm is played)
(Oh Shangri La, why cant I find you
and your faded promises)
Ive seen it in your eyes
A wanted mans disguise, and a million bad highs
The lights had all gone red, the 4 am dread
Then you make sense like the star that you are, oh Shangri La
Then back to the verse ( ), then chorus once
more ( ). Following the second chorus:
Oh Shangri La
Oh Shangri Laaaaaaaaaaaaa
Then finally, theres the intro to the last minute and a half:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----10----------12-------14-------15-----------17---------19--19---17-----20--
-------------------------------------------------------------------18-----18--
-/11------11/12----12/14----14/16--------16/17------17/19----------17-----17--
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ohhhhhhhhhhh Ohhhhh Ohohhhhhhhh
etc.
