Gene Are You There

[A]We walk the streets to[Bm]gether
And [E]through the city’s [A]square
She reaches out to [D]touch me
And says “[E]Gene, are you [A]there?”

[A]She smiles when I am [Bm]near her
And she [E]feels the love we [A]share
She searches for my [D]hand with hers
And says “[E]Gene, are you [A]there?”

[A]But she’s never seen the [D]moonlights
Or the [E]sunsets in the [A]west
And she’s never seen the [D]dawning of the spring
And [A]maybe for the [E]best
But she [A]needs me, she [E]needs me and I’m [A]there

She shows her love like a woman can
And I know she really cares
But her eyes don’t follow me around
She says “Gene, are you there?”

We walk the beach in the summer sun
And I am always near
Then I reach out and touch here hand
Saying “Honey I’m here.”
