How  many roads  must a man  walk down  before you call  him a man?
How many seas  must a white  dove sail  before she sleeps  in the sand?
Yes and how  many times  must the cannon  balls fly  before they're forever  banned?
The answer  my friend  is blowing  in the wind
The answer  is blowing  in the wind
 (Harmonica's Solo)
How  many years  can a mountain  exist  before it is washed  to the sea?
Yes and how many years  can some people  exist  before they're allowed  to be free?
Yes and how  many times  can a man  turn his head  pretending that he just  didn't see?
The answer  my friend  is blowing  in the wind
The answer  is blowing  in the wind
 (Harmonica's Solo)
Yes and how  many times  must a man  look up  before he can see  the sky?
Yes and how many ears  must one  man have  before he can hear  people cry?
Yes and how  many deaths  will it take  till he knows  that too many people  have died?
The answer  my friend  is blowing  in the wind
The answer  is blowing  in the wind
 (Harmonica's Solo)
 Girl From The North Country:
Well,  if you're travellin'  in the  north country fair,
Where  the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to  one who lives there
She  once was a true love  of mine.
Well,  if you go in the snowflake  storm
When  the rivers freeze and summer ends
Please see she has a  coat so warm
To  keep her from the howlin' winds.
Please  see for me if her  hair hangs  long
If  it rolls and flows all down her breast,
Please see for me  if her hair hangs long,
That's  the way I remember her  best.
I'm  a wonderin' if she remembers  me  at all
Many  times I've often prayed
In the darkness of  my night
In  the brightness of my day.
So  if you're travellin' in the north  country fair,
Where  the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to one  who lives there,
She  once was a true love  of mine.
 Maters Of War:
Come  you masters of war,  you that  build the big guns
You  that build the death  planes,  you that build all the bombs
You  that hide behind walls,  you  that hide behind desks
I  just want  you to know  I can see  through your masks
You  that never have done  nothin'  but build to destroy
You  play with  my  world like it's your little  toy
You  put a gun in my hand  then you hide from my eyes
Then  you  turn and run  farther when  the fast bullets  fly
Like  Judas  of old  you lie and deceive
A  world war can't  be  won,  and you want me to believe
But  I see through your  eyes  and I see through your brain
Like  I see  through the  water that  runs down my drain
You  that fasten all the triggers  for the others to fire
Then  you sit back and watch  while the death count gets higher
You  hide in your mansions while  the young people's blood
Flows  out  of their  bodies and  gets buried  in the  mud
You've  thrown the  worst fear  that can ever be hurled
Fear  to  bring  children into the  world
For  threatening  my  baby, unborn and unnamed
You  ain't  worth  the blood  that runs in  your veins
How  much  do  I know  to talk out of turn
You  might say that  I'm  young,  you might say I'm unlearned
But  there's one thing  I know,  though I'm younger than you
Even  Jesus  would  never forgive  what  you do
Let  me ask you one  question:  is your money that good?
Will  it buy you forgiveness?  Do you think that it could?
I  think you will find  when  your death takes its toll
All  the  money you made  won't ever  buy back your  soul
And  I hope that you die and  your death will come soon
I'll  follow your  casket  through the pale afternoon
And  I'll watch while  you're  lowered into your death bed
Then  I'll  stand over your  grave till  I'm sure that you're  dead
 Down The Highway:
Well  I'm walkin' down the highway with a suitcase inmy hand
Yes I'm walkin'  down the highway with a suitcase  in my hand
Lord I really  miss my baby she's in some far-off  land
With  my suitcase in my hand.
Lord, I really miss my baby,
 She's in some far-off land.
Well,  your streets are gettin' empty,
 Lord, your highway's  gettin'  filled.
And your  streets are gettin'  empty
And  your highway's gettin' filled.
Well, the way I love that woman,
I swear it's bound to get me killed.
Well,  I been gamblin' so long,
   ( Riff(
Lord, I ain't got much more to lose.
Yes, I been  gamblin' so  long,
Lord,  I ain't got much more to lose.
 Right now I'm havin' trouble,
Please don't take away my highway shoes.
Well,  I'm bound to get lucky, baby,
Or I'm  bound to die  tryin'.
Yes, I'm a-bound  to get  lucky, baby,
Lord,  Lord I'm a-bound to die tryin'.
Well, meet me in the middle of the ocean
And we'll leave this ol' highway behind.
Well,  the ocean took my baby,
My baby stole  my heart  from me.
Yes, the  ocean took my  baby,
My  baby took my heart from me.
She packed it all up in a suitcase,
Lord, she took it away to Italy, Italy.
So,  I'm a-walkin' down your highway
Just as far as  my poor eyes  can see.
Yes, I'm a-walkin'  down your  highway
Just  as far as my eyes can see.
 From the Golden Gate Bridge
All the way to the Statue of Liberty.
 Bob Dylan's Blues:
Well,  the Lone Ranger and Tonto
They are ridin' down the line
Fixin'  ev'rybody's troubles
 Ev'rybody's 'cept mine
 Somebody musta tol' 'em
 That I was doin' fine
Oh  you five and ten cent women
 With nothin' in your heads
I  got a real gal I'm lovin'
And Lord I'll love her till I'm dead
Go away from my door and my window too
 Right now
Lord,  I ain't goin' down to no race track
 See no sports car run
I  don't have no sports car
And I don't even care to have one
I can walk anytime around the block
,  D3RD, ,
Well,  the wind keeps a-blowin' me
 Up and down the street
With  my hat in my hand
And my boots on my feet
Watch out so you don't step on me
,  D3RD, ,
Well,  lookit here buddy
You want to be like me
 Pull out your six-shooter
And  rob every bank you can see
Tell the judge I said it was all right
 Yes!
 A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall:
Oh,  where have you been, my blue  eyed son?
Oh, where  have you been, my darling  young one?
I've stumbled  on the side of twelve  misty mountains
I've walked  and I've crawled on six  crooked highways
I've stepped  in the middle of seven  sad forests
I've been out  in front of a dozen  dead oceans
I've been ten  thousand miles in the mouth  of a graveyard
 And it's a hard,  and it's a hard,  it's a hard,  and it's a hard
 And it's a hard  rain's  a gonna fall
Oh, what  did you see, my blue eyed  son?
Oh, what  did you see, my darling  young one?
I saw a  newborn baby with wild wolves  all around it
I saw a  highway of diamonds with  nobody on it
I saw a  black branch with blood  that kept drippin'
I saw a  room full of men with their  hammers a bleedin'
I saw a  white ladder all covered  with water
I saw ten  thousand talkers whose  tongues were all broken
I saw guns  and sharp swords in the  hands of young children
 And it's a hard,  and it's a hard,  it's a hard,  and it's a hard
 And it's a hard  rain's  a gonna fall
And what  did you hear, my blue  eyed son?
And what  did you hear, my darling  young one?
I heard  the sound of a thunder,  it roared out a warnin'
Heard the  roar of a wave that could  drown the whole world
Heard one  hundred drummers whose  hands were a blazin'
Heard ten  thousand whisperin' and  nobody listenin'
Heard one  person starve, I heard  many people laughin'
Heard the  song of a poet who died  in the gutter
Heard the  sound of a clown who cried  in the alley
 And it's a hard,  and it's a hard,  it's a hard,  and it's a hard
 And it's a hard  rain's  a gonna fall
Oh, who  did you meet, my blue eyed  son?
Who did  you meet, my darling young  one?
I met a  young child beside a dead  pony
I met a  white man who walked a black  dog
I met a  young woman whose body was  burning
I met a  young girl, she gave me  a rainbow
I met one  man who was wounded in  love
I met another  man who was wounded  with hatred
 And it's a hard,  and it's a hard,  it's a hard,  and it's a hard
 And it's a hard  rain's  a gonna fall
Oh, what'll  you do now, my blue  eyed son?
Oh, what'll  you do now, my darling  young one?
I'm a goin'  back out 'fore the rain  starts a fallin'
I'll walk  to the depths of the deepest  black forest
Where the  people are many and their  hands are all empty
Where the  pellets of poison are  flooding their waters
Where the  home in the valley meets  the damp dirty prison
Where the  executioner's face is  always well hidden
Where hunger  is ugly, where souls  are forgotten
Where black  is the color, where  none is the number
And I'll  tell it and think it and  speak it and breathe it
And reflect  it from the mountain  so all souls can see it
Then I'll  stand on the ocean until  I start sinkin'
But I'll  know my song well before  I start singin'
 And it's a hard,  and it's a hard,  it's a hard,  and it's a hard
 And it's a hard  rain's  a gonna fall
 Don't Think Twice, It's Alright:
Well it ain't  no use to sit  and wonder why,  babe
If  you don't know by now
An' it ain't  no use to sit  and wonder why,  babe
It'll  never do somehow
When your rooster  crows at the break  of dawn
Look  out your window and  I'll  be gone
You're  the reason  I'm trav'lin'  on
But don't  think twice,  it's all right
An' it ain't  no use in turnin'  on your light,  babe
 The light  I never knowed
An' it ain't  no use in turnin'  on your light,  babe
I'm on  the dark side of the road
But I wish  there was somethin' you would  do or say
To try  and make me change my mind  and stay
We  never did  too much talkin'  anyway
But don't  think twice,  it's all right
So it ain't  no use in callin'  out my name,  gal
Like  you never done before
An' it ain't  no use in callin'  out my name,  gal
I  can't  hear you any more
I'm a-thinkin'  and a-wonderin' walkin'  down the road
 I once  loved a woman, a child  I'm told
I give  her my heart  but she wanted  my soul
But don't  think twice,  it's all right
 So long  honey-babe
 Where I'm bound,  I can't tell
Goodbye's too  good a word,  babe
So  I  just say fare thee well
I ain't  sayin' you treated  me unkind
You  could have done better but  I don't  mind
You  just kinda wasted  my  precious time
But don't  think twice,  it's all right

 Oxford Town, Oxford Town

Ev'rybody's got their heads bowed down
The  sun don't  shine above the  ground
Ain't a-goin' down to Oxford Town
 X2
He went down to Oxford Town
Guns and clubs followed him down
All  because his  face  was brown
Better get away from Oxford Town
 X2
 Oxford Town around the bend
He come in to the door, he couldn't get in
All because of the color of his skin
What do you think about that, my frien'?
 X2
Me and my gal, my gal's son
We got met with a tear gas bomb
I don't even know why we come
Goin' back where we come from
 X2
 Oxford Town in the afternoon
 Ev'rybody singin' a sorrowful tune
Two men died 'neath the Mississippi moon
 Somebody better investigate soon
 X2
 Oxford Town, Oxford Town
Ev'rybody's got their heads bowed down
The sun don't shine above the ground
Ain't a-goin' down to Oxford Town
 Talkin' World War III Blues:
This song is written after Bob Dylan experienced a bad dream about World War III. Very
that there will be a 3rd one anyway so don't worry.
Some  time ago a crazy dream came to me,
I dreamt I was walkin'  into World War Three,
I  went to the doctor the very next day
To see what kinda words he could say.
He  said it was a bad dream.
I  wouldn't worry 'bout it none, though,
They were my own dreams and they're only in my head.
I  said, "Hold it, Doc, a World War passed through my brain."
He said,  "Nurse, get your pad, this boy's insane,"
He  grabbed my arm, I said "Ouch!"
As I landed on the psychiatric couch,
He said, "Tell  me about it."
Well,  the whole thing started at 3 o'clock fast,
It was all over by quarter  past.
I  was down in the sewer with some little lover
When I peeked out from a manhole cover
Wondering  who turned the lights on.
Well,  I got up and walked around
And up  and down the lonesome town.
I  stood a-wondering which way to go,
I lit a cigarette on a parking meter
And walked on down the road.
It  was a normal day.
Well,  I rung the fallout shelter bell
And I leaned my head and I gave a yell,
"Give  me a string bean, I'm a hungry man."
A shotgun fired and away I ran.
I don't blame them too much though,
I  know I look funny.
Down  at the corner by a hot-dog stand
I seen a man, I said, "Howdy friend,
I guess there's just us two."
He screamed a bit and away he flew.
Thought  I was a Communist.
Well,  I spied a girl and before she could leave,
"Let's  go and play Adam and Eve."
I  took her by the hand and my heart it was thumpin'
When she said, "Hey man, you crazy or sumpin',
You  see what happened last time they started."
, , , ,  X3
Well,  I seen a Cadillac window uptown
And  there was nobody aroun',
I  got into the driver's seat
 And I drove 42nd Street
In  my Cadillac.
Good car to drive after a war.
, , , ,  X3
Well,  I remember seein' some ad,
So  I turned on my Conelrad.
But  I didn't pay my Con Ed bill,
So the radio didn't work so well.
Turned  on my player-
 It was Rock-A-Day, Johnny singin',
"Tell Your Ma, Tell Your Pa,
Our Loves Are Gonna Grow Ooh-wah, Ooh-wah."
, , , ,  X3
I  was feelin' kinda lonesome and blue,
I  needed somebody to talk to.
So  I called up the operator of time
Just to hear a voice of some kind.
"When  you hear the beep
 It will be three o'clock,"
She said that for over an hour
 And I hung it up.
, , , ,  X3
Well,  the doctor interrupted me just about then,
Sayin,  "Hey I've been havin' the same old dreams,
But  mine was a little different you see.
I dreamt that the only person left after the war was me.
I  didn't see you around."
, , , ,  X3
Well,  now time passed and now it seems
Everybody's  having them dreams.
Everybody  sees themselves walkin' around with no one else.
Half of the people can be part right all of the time,
Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time
I think Abraham Lincoln said that.
"I'll  let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours,"
 I said that.

Honey, Just Allow Me One More Chance:
 Harmonica Intro:
Honey,  just allow me one more chance
 To get  along with you.
Honey, just allow me one more chance,
 Ah'll do  anything with you.
Well,  I'm a-walkin' down the road
With my head  in my hand,
 I'm lookin'  for a woman
 Needs a worried  man.
Just-a  one kind favor  I ask  you,
'Low  me just-a one  more chance.
Honey,  just allow me one more chance
To  ride your aeroplane.
Honey, just allow  me one more chance
To  ride your passenger train.
Well, I've been lookin'  all over
For  a gal like you,
 I can't find nobody
So  you'll  have  to do.
Just-a  one kind favor  I ask you,
'Low me just-a one more chance.
Honey,  just allow me one more chance
 To get  along with you.
Honey, just allow  me one more chance,
Ah'll  do anything with you.
 Well, lookin'  for a woman
That  ain't got no man,
Is just lookin'  for a needle
That is lost in the sand.
Just-a  one kind  favor I  ask you,
'Low me just-a  one more  chance.
 I Shall Be Free:
, , ,  ,  ,, , ,  X2
Well,  I took me a woman late last night,
I's three-fourths drunk, she looked uptight.
She took off her wheel, took off her bell,
Took off her wig, said, "How do I smell?"
 I hot-footed it . . . bare-naked . . .
 Out the window!
Well,  sometimes I might get drunk,
Walk like a duck and stomp like a skunk.
Don't hurt me none, don't hurt my pride
'Cause I got my little lady right by my side.
 (Right there
 Proud as can be)
I's  out there paintin' on the old woodshed
When a can a black paint it fell on my head.
I went down to scrub and rub
But I had to sit in back of the tub.
 (Cost a quarter
And I had to get out quick . . .
Someone wanted to come in and take a sauna)
Well,  my telephone rang it would not stop,
It's President Kennedy callin' me up.
He said, "My friend, Bob, what do we need to make the country grow?"
I said, "My friend, John, Brigitte Bardot,
 Anita Ekberg,
 Sophia Loren."
(Put 'em all in the same room with Ernest Borgnine!)
Well,  I got a woman sleeps on a cot,
She yells and hollers and squeals a lot.
Licks my face and tickles my ear,
Bends me over and buys me beer.
 (She's a honeymooner
 A June crooner
 A spoon feeder
 And a natural leader)
Oh,  there ain't no use in me workin' so heavy,
I got a woman who works on the levee.
Pumping that water up to her neck,
Every week she sends me a monthly check.
 (She's a humdinger
 Folk singer
 Dead ringer
 For  thing--muh  jigger)
Late  one day in the middle of the week,
Eyes were closed I was half asleep.
I chased me a woman up the hill,
Right in the middle of an air raid drill.
 It was Little Bo Peep!
 (I jumped a fallout shelter
 I jumped a bean stalk
 I jumped a ferris wheel)
Now,  the man on the stand he wants my vote,
He's a-runnin' for office on the ballot note.
He's out there preachin' in front of the steeple,
Tellin' me he loves all kinds-a people.
 (He's eatin' bagels
 He's eatin' pizza
 He's eatin' chitlins
 He's eatin' bullshit!)
Oh,  set me down on a television floor,
I'll flip the channel to number four.
Out of the shower comes a grown-up man
With a bottle of hair oil in his hand.
 (It's that greasy kid stuff.
What I want to know, Mr. Football Man, is
What do you do about Willy Mays and Yul Brynner,
 Charles de Gaulle
 And Robert Louis Stevenson?)
Well,  the funniest woman I ever seen
Was the great-granddaughter of Mr. Clean.
She takes about fifteen baths a day,
Wants me to grow a cigar on my face.
 (She's a little bit heavy!)
Well,  ask me why I'm drunk alla time,
It levels my head and eases my mind.
I just walk along and stroll and sing,
I see better days and I do better things.
 (I catch dinosaurs
 I make love to Elizabeth Taylor . . .
 Catch hell from Richard Burton!)
 Enjoy!

Girl From The North Country:

[G]

W[G]ell, if you're tra[C]vellin[D]' in the[G] north country fair,
[G]Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me [C]to one who lives [G]there
[G]She once was a [C]true [D]love of [G]mine.

W[G]ell, if you go in the s[C]nowflak[D]e s[G]torm
[G]When the rivers freeze and summer ends
Please see she has a[C] coat so wa[G]rm
[G]To keep her from the [C]howli[D]n' [G]winds.

[G]Please see for me if he[C]r hair h[D]angs l[G]ong
[G]If it rolls and flows all down her breast,
Please see for m[C]e if her hair hangs l[G]ong,
[G]That's the way I [C]remember [D]her b[G]est.

[G]I'm a wonderin' if she r[C]emembers m[D]e at a[G]ll
[G]Many times I've often prayed
In the darkness of[C] my ni[G]ght
[G]In the brightness of [C]my [D]da[G]y.

[G]So if you're travellin' in the n[C]orth co[D]untry [G]fair,
[G]Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to o[C]ne who lives the[G]re,
[G]She once was a true l[C]ove of [D]mine[G].

[Am]For threate[Am]nin[Am7]g my[Am] baby, unborn and unnamed[Am7] [Am]
[Am]You ain[C]'t wort[G]h the blood[F] that runs i[Am]n your [Am7]vein[Am]s

[Am]How much[Am] do[Am7] I k[Am]now to talk out of t[Am7]urn [Am]
[Am]You might say tha[Am]t I[Am7]'m y[Am]oung, you might say I'm unlearned [Am7] [Am]
[Am]But there's one t[Am]hin[Am7]g I [Am]know, though I'm younger than you [Am7] [Am]
[Am]Even Je[C]sus woul[G]d never [F]forgive wha[Am]t you d[Am7]o [Am]

[Am]All the[C] money you m[G]ade won't e[F]ver buy back your[Am] soul [Am7] [Am]

[Am]I'll follow y[Am]our[Am7] cas[Am]ket through the pale after[Am7]noon[Am]
[Am]And I'll watch wh[Am]ile[Am7] you[Am]'re lowered into your death bed [Am7] [Am]
[Am]Then I'[C]ll stand over [G]your grave t[F]ill I'm sure that yo[Am]u're de[Am7]ad [Am]

Down The Highway:

[D7]

[D7]Well I'm walkin' down the highway with a suitcase inmy hand
Yes I'm [G]walkin' down the highway with a [D7]suitcase in my hand
Lord I [A]really miss my baby she's in some [D7]far-off land
[D7]With my suitcase in my hand.

Lord, I really miss my baby,

She's in some far-off land.

[D7]Well, your streets are gettin' empty,
Lord, your hig[G]hway's gett[D7]in' filled.
And yo[A]ur streets are g[D7]ettin' empty
[D7]And your highway's gettin' filled.

Well, the way I love that woman,

I swear it's bound to get me killed.

[D7]Well, I been gamblin' so long,
        [G] [D7] ( Riff(
Lord, I ain't got much more to lose.
Yes, I be[A]en gamblin' s[D7]o long,
[D7]Lord, I ain't got much more to lose.

Right now I'm havin' trouble,

Please don't take away my highway shoes.

[D7]Well, I'm bound to get lucky, baby,
Or I'm[G] bound to di[D7]e tryin'.
Yes, I'm a-b[A]ound to ge[D7]t lucky, baby,
[D7]Lord, Lord I'm a-bound to die tryin'.

Well, meet me in the middle of the ocean

And we'll leave this ol' highway behind.

[D7]Well, the ocean took my baby,
My baby sto[G]le my he[D7]art from me.
Yes, the[A] ocean took my[D7] baby,
[D7]My baby took my heart from me.

She packed it all up in a suitcase,

Lord, she took it away to Italy, Italy.

[D7]So, I'm a-walkin' down your highway
Just as far a[G]s my poor ey[D7]es can see.
Yes, I'm a-w[A]alkin' down you[D7]r highway
[D7]Just as far as my eyes can see.

From the Golden Gate Bridge

All the way to the Statue of Liberty.

Bob Dylan's Blues:

[A]

[A]Well, the Lone Ranger and Tonto

They are ridin' down the line
[E]Fixin' ev'rybody's troubles

Ev'rybody's 'cept mine

Somebody musta tol' 'em

That I was doin' fine

[A] [D] [E] [A]

[A]Oh you five and ten cent women

With nothin' in your heads
[E]I got a real gal I'm lovin'

And Lord I'll love her till I'm dead

Go away from my door and my window too

Right now

[A] [D] [E] [A]
[A]Lord, I ain't goin' down to no race track

See no sports car run
[E]I don't have no sports car

And I don't even care to have one

I can walk anytime around the block

[A], D3RD, [E], [A]

[A]Well, the wind keeps a-blowin' me

Up and down the street
[E]With my hat in my hand

And my boots on my feet

Watch out so you don't step on me

[A], D3RD, [E], [A]
[A]Well, lookit here buddy

You want to be like me

Pull out your six-shooter
[E]And rob every bank you can see

Tell the judge I said it was all right

Yes!

A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall:
[E]Oh, where have you been, my bl[A]ue eyed s[E]on?
Oh, wh[E]ere have you been, my dar[B]ling young one?
I've st[A]umbled on the side of tw[E]elve misty mountains
I've w[A]alked and I've crawled on s[E]ix crooked highways
I've st[A]epped in the middle of s[E]even sad forests
I've been o[A]ut in front of a doz[E]en dead oceans
I've been t[A]en thousand miles in the [E]mouth of a graveyard
And it's a h[E]ard, and it's a ha[B]rd, it's a h[E]ard, and it's a [A]hard
And it's a ha[E]rd r[B]ain's a gonna f[E]all [A] [E]

Oh, wh[E]at did you see, my blue ey[A]ed son? [E]
Oh, wh[E]at did you see, my darlin[B]g young one?
I saw a[A] newborn baby with wild [E]wolves all around it
I saw a[A] highway of diamonds wit[E]h nobody on it
I saw a[A] black branch with blood[E] that kept drippin'
I saw a[A] room full of men with t[E]heir hammers a bleedin'
I saw a[A] white ladder all covere[E]d with water
I saw t[A]en thousand talkers whos[E]e tongues were all broken
I saw g[A]uns and sharp swords in [E]the hands of young children
And it's a h[E]ard, and it's a ha[B]rd, it's a h[E]ard, and it's a [A]hard
And it's a ha[E]rd r[B]ain's a gonna f[E]all [A] [E]

And wh[E]at did you hear, my blue[A] eyed son[E]?
And wh[E]at did you hear, my darli[B]ng young one?
I heard[A] the sound of a thunder,[E] it roared out a warnin'
Heard t[A]he roar of a wave that c[E]ould drown the whole world
Heard o[A]ne hundred drummers whos[E]e hands were a blazin'
Heard t[A]en thousand whisperin' a[E]nd nobody listenin'
Heard o[A]ne person starve, I hear[E]d many people laughin'
Heard t[A]he song of a poet who di[E]ed in the gutter
Heard t[A]he sound of a clown who [E]cried in the alley
And it's a h[E]ard, and it's a ha[B]rd, it's a h[E]ard, and it's a [A]hard
And it's a ha[E]rd r[B]ain's a gonna f[E]all [A] [E]

Oh, wh[E]o did you meet, my blue [A]eyed son?[E]
Who di[E]d you meet, my darling yo[B]ung one?
I met a[A] young child beside a de[E]ad pony
I met a[A] white man who walked a [E]black dog
I met a[A] young woman whose body [E]was burning
I met a[A] young girl, she gave me[E] a rainbow
I met o[A]ne man who was wounded i[E]n love
I met a[A]nother man who was wound[E]ed with hatred
And it's a h[E]ard, and it's a ha[B]rd, it's a h[E]ard, and it's a [A]hard
And it's a ha[E]rd r[B]ain's a gonna f[E]all [A] [E]

Oh, wh[E]at'll you do now, my blu[A]e eyed so[E]n?
Oh, wh[E]at'll you do now, my darl[B]ing young one?
I'm a g[A]oin' back out 'fore the [E]rain starts a fallin'
I'll wa[A]lk to the depths of the [E]deepest black forest
Where t[A]he people are many and t[E]heir hands are all empty
Where t[A]he pellets of poison are[E] flooding their waters
Where t[A]he home in the valley me[E]ets the damp dirty prison
Where t[A]he executioner's face is[E] always well hidden
Where h[A]unger is ugly, where sou[E]ls are forgotten
Where b[A]lack is the color, where[E] none is the number
And I'l[A]l tell it and think it a[E]nd speak it and breathe it
And ref[A]lect it from the mountai[E]n so all souls can see it
Then I'[A]ll stand on the ocean un[E]til I start sinkin'
But I'l[A]l know my song well befo[E]re I start singin'
And it's a h[E]ard, and it's a ha[B]rd, it's a h[E]ard, and it's a [A]hard
And it's a ha[E]rd r[B]ain's a gonna f[E]all [A] [E]

Don't Think Twice, It's Alright:

[E] [B] [C#m] [A] [E] [B] [E]

Well it [E]ain't no use to [B]sit and wonder [C#m]why, babe
[A]If you don't know by [E]now [B]
An' it [E]ain't no use to [B]sit and wonder [C#m]why, babe
[F#7]It'l[A7]l never do some[B]how
When your [E]rooster crows at the [E7]break of dawn
[A]Look out your window and[F#7] I'l[A7]l be gone
[E]You're the [B]reason I'm [C#m]trav'lin' on[A]
But [E]don't think [B]twice, it's all [E]right

[E] [B] [C#m] [A] [E]

An' it [E]ain't no use in [B]turnin' on your [C#m]light, babe
The [A]light I never [E]knowed [B]
An' it [E]ain't no use in [B]turnin' on your [C#m]light, babe
[F#7]I'm [A7]on the dark side of the [B]road
But I [E]wish there was somethin' you would[E7] do or say
To [A]try and make me change my [F#7]mind[A7] and stay
[E]We never [B]did too much [C#m]talkin' any[A]way
But [E]don't think [B]twice, it's all [E]right

[E] [B] [C#m] [A] [E]

So it [E]ain't no use in [B]callin' out my [C#m]name, gal
[A]Like you never done be[E]fore [B]
An' it [E]ain't no use in [B]callin' out my [C#m]name, gal
[F#7]I ca[A7]n't hear you any m[B]ore
I'm a-[E]thinkin' and a-wonderin' [E7]walkin' down the road
I [A]once loved a woman, a [F#7]chil[A7]d I'm told
I [E]give her my [B]heart but she [C#m]wanted my [A]soul
But [E]don't think [B]twice, it's all [E]right

[E] [B] [C#m] [A] [E]

So [E]lon[B]g honey-[C#m]babe
Where I'm [A]bound, I can't [E]tell [B]
[E]Goodbye's [B]too good a [C#m]word, babe
[F#7]So I[A7] just say fare thee [B]well
I [E]ain't sayin' you treated[E7] me unkind
[A]You could have done better but[F#7] I d[A7]on't mind
[E]You just kinda [B]wasted my[C#m] precious [A]time
But [E]don't think [B]twice, it's all [E]right

Ain't a-goin' down to Oxford Town

Talkin' World War III Blues:
This song is written after Bob Dylan experienced a bad dream about World War III. Very
that there will be a 3rd one anyway so don't worry.

[D] [G] [E] [G]

[G]Some time ago a crazy dream came to me,
I dreamt I was wa[D]lkin' into World War [E]Thre[G]e,
[D]I went to the doctor the very next day

To see what kinda words he could say.
[G]He said it was a bad dream.
[D]I wouldn't worry 'bout it none, though,

They were my own dreams and they're only in my head.

[E] [G] [D] [E] [G]

[G]I said, "Hold it, Doc, a World War passed through my brain."
He said,[D] "Nurse, get your pad, this boy's insane," [E] [G]
[D]He grabbed my arm, I said "Ouch!"

As I landed on the psychiatric couch,
He said, "Tell[G] me about it."

[E] [G] [D] [E] [G]

[G]Well, the whole thing started at 3 o'clock fast,
It was all over by [D]quarter past.[E] [G]
[D]I was down in the sewer with some little lover
When I peeked out from a manhole cover [E] [G]
[D]Wondering who turned the lights on.

[E] [G] [D] [E] [G]

[G]Well, I got up and walked around
And up[D] and down the lonesome town. [E] [G]
[D]I stood a-wondering which way to go,

I lit a cigarette on a parking meter
And walked on down the r[E]oad. [G]
[D]It was a normal day.

[E] [G] [D] [E] [G]

[G]Well, I rung the fallout shelter bell

And I leaned my head and I gave a yell,
[D]"Give me a string bean, I'm a hungry man."

A shotgun fired and away I ran.

I don't blame them too much though,
[G]I know I look funny.

[E] [G] [D] [E] [G]

[G]Down at the corner by a hot-dog stand

I seen a man, I said, "Howdy friend,

I guess there's just us two."
He screamed a bit and away he fle[E]w. [G]
[D]Thought I was a Communist.

[E] [G] [D] [E] [G]

[G]Well, I spied a girl and before she could leave,
[D]"Let's go and play Adam and Eve." [E] [G]
[D]I took her by the hand and my heart it was thumpin'
When she said, "Hey man, you crazy or sumpin', [E] [G]
[D]You see what happened last time they started."

[E], [G], [D], [E], [G] X3

[G]Well, I seen a Cadillac window uptown
[D]And there was nobody aroun'[E], [G]
[D]I got into the driver's seat

And I drove 42nd Street
[D]In my Cadillac.

Good car to drive after a war.

[E], [G], [D], [E], [G] X3

[G]Well, I remember seein' some ad,
[D]So I turned on my Conelrad. [E] [G]
[D]But I didn't pay my Con Ed bill, [E] [G]

So the radio didn't work so well.
[D]Turned on my player-

It was Rock-A-Day, Johnny singin',

"Tell Your Ma, Tell Your Pa,

Our Loves Are Gonna Grow Ooh-wah, Ooh-wah."

[E], [G], [D], [E], [G] X3

[G]I was feelin' kinda lonesome and blue,
[D]I needed somebody to talk to. [E] [G]
[D]So I called up the operator of time
Just to hear a voice of some kind. [E] [G]
[D]"When you hear the beep

It will be three o'clock,"

She said that for over an hour

And I hung it up.

[E], [G], [D], [E], [G] X3

[G]Well, the doctor interrupted me just about then,
[D]Sayin, "Hey I've been havin' the same old dreams, [E] [G]
[D]But mine was a little different you see.
I dreamt that the only person left after the war was me[E]. [G]
[D]I didn't see you around."

[E], [G], [D], [E], [G] X3

[G]Well, now time passed and now it seems
[D]Everybody's having them dreams.[E] [G]
[D]Everybody sees themselves walkin' around with no one else.

Half of the people can be part right all of the time,

Some of the people can be all right part of the time.

But all the people can't be all right all the time

I think Abraham Lincoln said that.
[D]"I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours," [E] [G]

I said that.

Honey, Just Allow Me One More Chance:
Harmonica Intro: [G] [C] [G]

[G]Honey, just allow me one more chance
To g[C]et along with y[G]ou.

Honey, just allow me one more chance,
Ah'll [A7]do anything with y[D]ou.
[G]Well, I'm a-walkin' down the road
With my h[G7]ead in my hand,
I'm l[C]ookin' for a woman
Needs a w[A7]orried man.
[G]Just-a one kind f[D]avor I a[G]sk y[C]ou,
[G]'Low me just-a o[D]ne more c[G]hance.

[G]Honey, just allow me one more chance
[C]To ride your aero[G]plane.
Honey, just allow[A7] me one more ch[D]ance
[G]To ride your passenger train.
Well, I've been [G7]lookin' all over
[C]For a gal like you,
I can't find [A7]nobody
[G]So you[D]'ll hav[G]e to [C]do.
[G]Just-a one kind f[D]avor I ask y[G]ou,

'Low me just-a one more chance.

[G]Honey, just allow me one more chance
To get[C] along with y[G]ou.
Honey, just allow[A7] me one more ch[D]ance,
[G]Ah'll do anything with you.
Well, loo[G7]kin' for a woman
[C]That ain't got no man,
Is just look[A7]in' for a needle

That is lost in the sand.
[G]Just-a one k[D]ind favor [G]I ask you[C],
'Low me j[G]ust-a one more[D] chance.[G]

I Shall Be Free:

[G], [G], [G], [G] , [C] ,[G], [C], [C], [G] X2

[D]Well, I took me a woman late last night,

I's three-fourths drunk, she looked uptight.

She took off her wheel, took off her bell,

Took off her wig, said, "How do I smell?"

I hot-footed it . . . bare-naked . . .

Out the window!

[G]Well, sometimes I might get drunk,

Walk like a duck and stomp like a skunk.

Don't hurt me none, don't hurt my pride

'Cause I got my little lady right by my side.

(Right there

Proud as can be)

[D]I's out there paintin' on the old woodshed

When a can a black paint it fell on my head.

I went down to scrub and rub

But I had to sit in back of the tub.

(Cost a quarter

And I had to get out quick . . .

Someone wanted to come in and take a sauna)

[G]Well, my telephone rang it would not stop,

It's President Kennedy callin' me up.

He said, "My friend, Bob, what do we need to make the country grow?"

I said, "My friend, John, Brigitte Bardot,

Anita Ekberg,

Sophia Loren."

(Put 'em all in the same room with Ernest Borgnine!)

[D]Well, I got a woman sleeps on a cot,

She yells and hollers and squeals a lot.

Licks my face and tickles my ear,

Bends me over and buys me beer.

(She's a honeymooner

A June crooner

A spoon feeder

And a natural leader)

[G]Oh, there ain't no use in me workin' so heavy,

I got a woman who works on the levee.

Pumping that water up to her neck,

Every week she sends me a monthly check.

(She's a humdinger

Folk singer

Dead ringer

For [A] thing-[A]-muh jigger)

[D]Late one day in the middle of the week,

Eyes were closed I was half asleep.

I chased me a woman up the hill,

Right in the middle of an air raid drill.

It was Little Bo Peep!

(I jumped a fallout shelter

I jumped a bean stalk

I jumped a ferris wheel)

[G]Now, the man on the stand he wants my vote,

He's a-runnin' for office on the ballot note.

He's out there preachin' in front of the steeple,

Tellin' me he loves all kinds-a people.

(He's eatin' bagels

He's eatin' pizza

He's eatin' chitlins

He's eatin' bullshit!)

[D]Oh, set me down on a television floor,

I'll flip the channel to number four.

Out of the shower comes a grown-up man

With a bottle of hair oil in his hand.

(It's that greasy kid stuff.

What I want to know, Mr. Football Man, is

What do you do about Willy Mays and Yul Brynner,

Charles de Gaulle

And Robert Louis Stevenson?)

[G]Well, the funniest woman I ever seen

Was the great-granddaughter of Mr. Clean.

She takes about fifteen baths a day,

Wants me to grow a cigar on my face.

(She's a little bit heavy!)

[D]Well, ask me why I'm drunk alla time,

It levels my head and eases my mind.

I just walk along and stroll and sing,

I see better days and I do better things.

(I catch dinosaurs

I make love to Elizabeth Taylor . . .

Catch hell from Richard Burton!)

Enjoy!

Note: Some songs might be wrong but do let the office know. Overall, enjoy!
